Dragonboating is a unique form of exercise. First of all, it is a team effort, so it’s not just a matter of exerting yourself – it’s a matter of exerting yourself in sync with your fellow paddlers in the boat. That makes it more challenging, more
fun than traditional forms of exercise, and more likely that you’ll
stay interested. Also, you get a chance to actually be on the Schuylkill
River and get a very different perspective from merely riding by.Dragonboating is a challenging sport that requires a certain amount of exertion. You will be motivated to push and stretch yourself to get better, faster, and stronger, while reaping the benefits and good spirits that any rigorous exercise brings. An unexpected and powerful benefit of dragonboating is the opportunity to meet other women from all over the Philadelphia area, diverse and interesting women whose paths you might never cross if it weren’t for a common interest in dragonboating. We have breast cancer survivors, single working mothers, young professionals, retired women, divorcees and widowers, empty nesters. We are professionals, teachers, gallery owners, fund raisers, acupuncture therapists, writers, artists, psychologists, social workers, secretaries, nurses, doctors, occupational and physical therapists, and stay at home moms. Our diversity feeds our camaraderie. We welcome each others differences, allowing our minds to be broadened by the multiplicity of backgrounds and styles; we appreciate the texture of each individua l
because it makes up the fabric that is our wonderful dragonboat tapestry.
This is a place where everyone with an open heart, open mind, and willingness
to grow in spirit is welcome. So bring a relaxed countenance and friendly
outreached hand, and a willingness to work your body hard, for this is a
place where you can forget external tensions and pressures, where you can
come and unite with kindred spirits in rediscovering fun, adventure, closeness
to nature, physical challenge, and the give and take of true team work.
Our commonality is that we are strong in spirit -- we are some of us survivors;
we are all of us thrivers.Now may be the time for you to try something completely different - dragonboating!! If you are interested and want more information, please visit our contact us page. If you indicate that you are a breast cancer survivor, we will also send you information on our Against the Wind Team.
